After many trials and tribulations behind the scenes the classic English sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf is set to return, the science fiction comedy sitcom returns with series 10. Kryten, Lister, Cat and Rimmer are once again aboard the Red Dwarf, with their irreverent take on life. The status of Holly the Red Dwarfs computer is still unknown, has she dried out yet?
Originally created by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor who together wrote the first six series the tenth series has been a long time coming, three years since the Back To Earth mini-series and 12 years since the last full series, series VIII. The end of series 6 saw the partnership between the shows creators Rob and Doug dissolve, with Rob Grant moving on to work on other projects.
Like many great shows Red Dwarf began as a recurring sketch, starting life on the BBC4 comedy show Son of Cliche, also written by Rob and Doug, also referred to as Grant Naylor. Ironically the last complete series, series 8, was the highest rating of all with over 2 million viewers watching each episode.
Red Dwarf fans it is time to rejoice, filming wrapped up in January 2012, June saw the editing and post production completed, now we only have a wait remaining. Keep an eye out the show should air September 10 in the UK on Dave (an ITV channel) and should be available through unofficial channels shortly after. Red Dwarf fans the long awaited tenth series is almost here.
