Gotye – Somebodies: A YouTube Orchestra and Mashup Mix Master Spectacular…

Gotye‘s flexibility as an artist is on display in his latest YouTube video production ‘Somebodies: A YouTube Orchestra’.

Obviously assuming that imitation is indeed the greatest form of flattery Gotye has taken his favorite YouTube parody video’s and produce Sombodies, an incredibly catchy tribute to all of the people touched by his immensely popular Somebody I used to know music video.

Working with a palette of literally thousands of tribute video’s Gotye folded, layered and mixed like a master chef of the recording studio. An incredibly diverse collection of instruments and styles of playing music were used in the thousands of tribute videos, forming the basis of the rich palette Gotye worked with.

YouTube tribute video’s by nature contain visual evidence of the Orchestra members, the music video cleverly windows the video of the various audio layer, giving the music video a unique character; a catchy, pro sounding mix but with the face of a world of bedroom artists.

His remarkably memorable ‘Somebody I used to know’ was a track so catchy that it burned its way in to our collective consciousness. Now far more than a memorable track for many at Highpants it represents a period of time in our lives, invoking memories of time passed and people we used to know.

Interesting how music can be associated with a period of time, collection of memories, creating a bookmark in our memories of a certain place on our Facebook timelines.

Gotye, if he had any other names catchy would be in the middle. Here at Highpants we would just like to thank Gotye for both the original Somebody and now Somebodies, tracks that touched a lot of people around the world, crossing borders and even languages traveling at the speed of sound to make us tap our feet and have a little heart.
