For a group of Berwick Middle School students – Pennsylvania, America - an 8th grade field trip took an interesting twist with lunch at Hooters. Is this a new motivational technique, if so we at Highpants believe it’s a stroke of genius, an education revolution.
The entire group of 100 students were on a field trip to Baltimore’s National Aquarium, at the conclusion of the fishy excursion the main group was split up due to its size and one of the groups decided Hooters was the place to be. While none of the male students were able to leave the table during their time at Hooters, there have been no complaints from students or their parents, so far.
Websites, discussion groups and forums are a blaze with chatter, discussing Hooters as a responsible destination for teenagers We think it depends on who you ask parent or student. Commentary ranges from having no problem with Hooters, a few people didn’t like the idea of teenagers and Hooters and a small number of people sharing Hooters horror stories.
The restaurant chain famous for its busty waitresses may be the restaurant of choice for middle school excursions, in yet another interesting twist this is not the first excursion to Hooters by a school group, nor is it the first time to make the headlines. In 2009 a Phoenix High School choir teacher Mary Segall was put on leave after taking her students to Hooters for lunch. In this case the students actually voted on their lunch destination of choice and by popular demand the group enjoyed a chicken wing special at Hooters.
Berwick Middle School Superintendent Wayne Brookhart says that while he wishes the group’s coed chaperones had chosen another restaurant, he has not received any complaints from parents.
Now who’s in the mood for chicken wings, a Hooters specialty.
